The Lecture today was by Katie Greenyer a creative director of Pentland Brands, who worked with the Red or dead brand before becoming a freelancer while she worked there her focus was on print, color, and graphics. Katie gave us an introduction to Pentland Brands, Speedo, and Japanese culture too. Having Katie come and give us a talk about her background and all the work she has done, got me thinking a lot about my career part and where it's heading, I was very inspired by the story behind her first Job offer, it made me realize that whatever you need to be or do whether to work in in a Company or be a freelancer it’s up to you to be bold, believe and go for it because if she didn’t go in that day to that Red and dead to ask for Job without been thoughtful of herself she wouldn’t have been given a shot. And for that alone, I have started thinking I should give myself some credit for how far I have come and believe in who I am and what l want to achieve and go for it.
Katie also gave CV tips on the importance of our CV appearance that it should be Simple, be mindful of the front (it should be readable) and that Typo is not accepted, Organization is key, the last part of her tip which was humble and kind no matter your level, this was so personal to me as I believe that such quality will take you far in your career, also the people you meet now can be people you can Collaborate with in future.
Katie is one of my favorite Guest speakers so far because I like that she still believes in works being in tactile forms and not everything digital, which is a big eye-opener. After all, I still believe in physical designs, things to feel even as the world keeps evolving into digital space in fashion and textiles. So, I feel all I can say is stay true to yourself and do you because uniqueness is in rare Gems. Take Paul Smith as an example they are still having manually made designs. And her passion for us to represent ourselves well when writing our CV for and Job role.
